If you’re new to endodontics, the barbed broaches are one of the first instruments you’ll come across in the root canal clinic. This Dentsply (Spiro Colorinox) pack contains an assortment of 6 different sizes (ISO 020 to 060), with 10 units of each, making it ideal for always having the right size to hand.

We recommend this set to students at the European University of Valencia whose lecturers require them to use “Tiranervios 10-15-20-25-30”.

What is it used for?
Its function is to remove the pulp tissue from inside the root canal before starting instrumentation with files. It is spiral-shaped with small barbs that ‘hook’ onto the pulp so it can be removed.

What you need to know:

Each size has a different colour (ISO code) for quick identification, which is very useful when you’re learning the sequence
Length of 21 mm, designed for straight-tunneled anterior and premolar canals
They come pre-sterilised, ready for use in clinical practice or pre-clinical exercises
They are single-use only and must be discarded (do not re-sterilise)

When to use it: In the early stages of root canal treatment, immediately after opening the pulp chamber and before shaping the canal with files.
